About the event

The last Saturday of April is American Legion Family Day in

accordance with Resolution No. 7, which encourages Posts to open

their doors to members of their community for the day to recognize

and celebrate the accomplishments of Legionnaires, Sons of The

American Legion members, Legion Riders and American Legion

Auxiliary.

The day is also an opportunity to bring awareness to the

Legion’s Be the One mission to reduce the rate of veteran suicide

and destigmatize the need to ask for help.

This year, American Legion Family Day is April 27. American

Legion Posts are encouraged to share the Legion story and the

local Post and community history.

Last year on December 16th, American Legion Post 216 held a

successful Post Charter Centennial Celebration event which was

visited by the American Legion National Commander. But not

everyone in the community could attend because of the limited

seating and dining space, and a fixed time agenda.

This year on March 23, 2024, the Legion Post 216 Memorial Hall

became 95 years old since its first official public Open House dinner

and dance on March 23, 1929.

Coronans have seen our building since 1929, coming for wedding

receptions, Scout meetings, school dances, Quinceaneras, and

many other occasions; but not a real open formal invitation to come

in, learn about our Post’s history, learn what our Legion Family

does, learn that we are more than just a veteran’s group. Yes, we

help veterans and support local veterans, but we also support the

community at large.

Please stop by on Saturday 4/27/2024 any time from 1:00 to

5:00PM to visit with us, learn about our Legion and our historic

Hall, and enjoy some light refreshments for however much time you

want to visit.
