The City of Corona Landmark Designated Legion Memorial Hall building has been home to Corona's veterans and a meeting place for Coronians since 1929. It has served the community well, and now it could use some help from the community to renovate and upgrade it to serve us all better in the future.
Early in 2019, Post 216 completed Phase 1 of a building upgrade of our 1929-built Legion Memorial Hall. This upgrade included refinishing the exterior painting and making roof repairs, which were completed in time for the May 11, 2019, Corona Historical Preservation Society Vintage Home Tour. The refreshed exterior helped the Hall gain recognition during the City of Corona 2020 Virtual 4th of July COVID-19 restricted event.
We are now embarking on additional phases of a renovation/upgrade plan that will double the size of the Hall interior, upgrade the restrooms to current standards, and more to better serve all Coronians.
The plans for the additional phases of the renovation/upgrading program have been prepared and submitted to the city for approval and permits. The project aims to remove the dividing wall installed in 1976 and double the size of the Legion Hall's interior. Additionally, it involves providing a separate men's restroom and a women's/family restroom solely for the Legion Hall's use and upgrading all the restrooms to current standards. The overhead lighting and ceiling fans will be redistributed and upgraded, and another entrance door will be created for the enlarged Legion Hall. The doors will also be upgraded for ease-of-access. Furthermore, a separate unisex restroom will be provided for the rental office suite, and an access ramp will be added to the rental door. Normal repairs will be made in the rental office suite, followed by remodeling the refreshments prep area.
